‘Chelsea and Aston Villa at risk as Newcastle plan transfer raids’

Chelsea and Aston Villa find themselves in potential danger with Newcastle in the process of planning their summer transfer window.

All three clubs found themselves in danger of running afoul of the Premier League‘s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) last summer.

Newcastle were forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, Aston Villa sent Douglas Luiz to Juventus, whilst Chelsea sold Ian Maatsen to the Villains in order to avoid a sanction.

But whilst the Magpies have exercised caution and restraint since then, according to The i, both the Midlands club and the Blues could be “close to their limit” once again.

Newcastle looking to take advantage of Aston Villa and Chelsea

According to the report, plans to reinvigorate the squad in key positions are understood to be “well underway”, and Newcastle are hoping to take advantage of several rival clubs who are close to the limit of their allowed PSR losses.

Whilst it is not in the public domain which clubs are potentially in trouble, football finance experts consulted by The i believe Chelsea and Villa are two of those on the brink.

One target may be Jacob Ramsey from the Midlands side, whom Newcastle hold a long-term interest in, but that deal would reportedly be “fiendishly difficult” to broker as they are a rival for Champions League football.

Newcastle given boost in Liam Delap, Marc Guehi deals due to rivals PSR issues

Football Insider Verdict

As noted in regards to Newcastle’s interest in Ramsey, doing deals with Chelsea and Villa may prove difficult this summer, given all three find themselves competing for Champions League football.

The Magpies and the Villains both fancy themselves as having a chance of breaking up the establishment that is the top six, and superseding Man United and Tottenham as one of England’s elite clubs.

However, whilst signing their rivals’ players will prove tricky, Eddie Howe’s side now seemingly have the upper hand in signing players that both clubs may want this summer.

Chelsea and Newcastle are both in the running for Liam Delap, but if the Blues are hamstrung by PSR constraints, their offer for the Ipswich striker may pale in comparison to what the North Eastern side can offer.

The same can be said for Jack Grealish who may choose Newcastle over a return to Villa, with the Magpies in a stronger financial position.
