Chelsea braced for ‘cheeky’ Conor Gallagher bids after new development – sources

Chelsea are set to face “cheeky” bids for Conor Gallagher this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed (15 March) that the Blues are “likely” to sell Gallagher, 24, this summer due to their Profit and Sustainability pressures.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that clubs in England and across Europe see the midfielder as a potential “bargain signing”.

The England international’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season, meaning Chelsea will be under pressure to sell him this summer to avoid losing him as a free agent and could be subject to offers below their valuation.

Sources have also told Football Insider (9 March) that contract negotiations between Chelsea and Gallagher have completely stalled as the club are unable to discuss an improved deal with him due to their financial issues.

The former Crystal Palace and West Brom loanee has been of significant interest to rivals Tottenham, who held talks with the Blues in January and still hold concrete interest in a move.

Chelsea are under major pressure to balance their books before 30 June after their 2022-23 accounts revealed that they suffered losses of £90.1million last year.

Well-placed sources have also told Football Insider (6 March) that are now planning to sell up to four senior stars before July to ease their financial pressures, and Gallagher is high on their list of those who could be sold.
