Expert: This may be real reason for Petr Cech exit as Chelsea dispute details emerge

Petr Cech’s Chelsea exit may have been self-dictated as he feels the club needed new blood in his position under the new ownership regime.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Chelsea confirmed on Monday (27 June) that Cech was set to leave his role as technical and performance advisor.

The former goalkeeper, who played almost 500 times for the Blues, is the third senior figure to leave Stanford Bridge in recent times, with chairman Bruce and Buck and director Marina Granovskia also departing.

The Telegraph reported after the announcement that Cech had disagreed with Thomas Tuchel over the future of Romelu Lukaku, who has now re-joined Inter Milan on loan.

It is understood that Cech believed the Belgian striker, 29, would come good in his second season at the club and lobbied for him to remain at Stanford Bridge.

But Dinnery suggests that the 40-year-old’s exit was on his own terms and that it will not be too disruptive behind the scenes.

“Time will tell whether this will throw the club off-balance,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“You can take the positives from it and say it’s an injection of new blood to take the club forward.

We may never know the real story but Cech may personally feel his time has run its course and it’s time to let someone else enjoy a fresh start.

“It depends how it affects players internally. The off-the-field stuff shouldn’t really impact them too much in terms of their day-to-day.

“He’s been a legend at the club but ultimately I wouldn’t have thought it will stop Chelsea from getting results that they need.”
