Chelsea could sell Conor Gallagher even earlier than thought after ‘devastating’ development
Talks between Chelsea and Conor Gallagher over a new contract have completely stalled after the club’s devastating announcement, sources have told Football Insider.
The Blues are unable to discuss an improved deal with the 24-year-old midfielder due to the level of their financial issues.
It is understood that Gallagher now may be sold by Chelsea before 30 June so that his fee can contribute towards the club’s 2023-24 financial accounts.
Chelsea’s latest 2022-23 accounts revealed that they suffered losses of £90.1million last year with £121.4million lost throughout 2021-22.
Premier League financial rules state that top-flight clubs can lose a maximum of £105million over three years before facing a points deduction.
Chelsea contract talks with Gallagher grind to a halt
The Londoners are now under huge pressure to sell before the June cut-off date and Gallagher could be the first on the chopping block as the sale of academy players adds pure profit to accounts.
Sources have told Football Insider that talks with Gallagher over a new deal have reached an “impasse”.

Tottenham have been widely linked with a move for the English midfielder and Football Insider revealed in February that Spurs have a “concrete interest” in Gallagher and will try again to sign him this summer.
Gallagher has been a key player at Stamford Bridge this season with four goals and six assists across 36 appearances in 2023-24.
