Chelsea ‘happy to pay for £80m+ new Arjen Robben’ wanted by Liverpool and Spurs

Chelsea would be “happy” to pay for Jamie Gittens as the Englishman is predicted to be Borussia Dortmund’s next €100million [£83m] transfer, by Bild’s Michael Makus.

The Blues, along with Liverpool and Tottenham, are among the clubs keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old’s progress, with all three Premier League giants said to be long-term admirers of the talented Englishman.

Makus suggests that Gittens, who has already impressed in his time at Dortmund, is poised to follow in the footsteps of Jude Bellingham after his big-money move to Real Madrid.

Known for his pace, dribbling ability, and attacking flair, Gittens has been dubbed the “BVB-Robben” after the Dutch legend, whose devastating cuts inside from the left flank made him one of the most dangerous wingers in Europe during his time at Bayern Munich and Stamford Bridge.

As the 20-year-old’s emerging star continues to develop in Germany, the trio of Premier League clubs appear ready to pay a premium for an English talent, with Makus stating: “Importing Englishmen back to England – that’s something they’re happy to pay for.”

Chelsea face Jamie Gittens competition as Dortmund exit tipped

Football Insider opinion

The attacker has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in European football, and he would be a brilliant addition to the Blues attack.

Gittens is currently lighting up the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund, has already scored four goals in five group-stage appearances this season. Additionally, he has contributed three goals and three assists in the Bundesliga, proving his ability to make an impact both domestically and in Europe.

His latest strike, a stunning right-footed shot from 18 yards to find the bottom corner in Dortmund’s 3-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb on 27 November, showcased his natural talent and his ability to produce when it matters most and was a perfect example of his potential. Cutting in from the left wing, he calmly finished with a wonderful finish, showing maturity and composure for such a young player.

What makes the English ace such an exciting prospect for Chelsea is his ability to excel in a position where the Blues have struggled in recent seasons. Playing predominantly on the left wing, he offers a dynamic attacking threat that the London club have been lacking. His dynamic runs inside, ability to take on and beat defenders, alongside his clinical finishing, would bring balance to Enzo Maresca’s side, providing competition for Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto on the left flank opposite Noni Madueke.

Unlike Sancho, who is still awaiting his first goal for Chelsea after seven appearances, or Neto, who has scored just once in the Premier League for the Blues, Gittens has demonstrated the kind of flair, creativity, and skill that could make him a key player at Stamford Bridge.

The Bundesliga talent fits the exact profile that Todd Boehly and Clearlake have gone after in recent windows, but after investing so heavily in the current options it would be another huge outlay to add Gittens on top.
