Chelsea news: Pundit drops ‘big’ Mauricio Pochettino sack verdict
Mauricio Pochettino will stay at Chelsea beyond this season and be given the summer to rebuild the squad.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed the Argentine’s job must be “soul-destroying” amid the Blues on-field and off-field woes.
The former Tottenham boss has faced much criticism for a lacklustre season with the West London side, who sit 11th in the Premier League table after a summer of heavy spending.
He is expected to stay until the end of the season at least, with Football Insider revealing (7 March) that his position will depend on whether he can oversee a strong end to the campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino to stay at Chelsea?
Chelsea are also expected to have another active transfer window, with sources telling Football Insider (6 March) that they want to sell up to four senior stars before the new season.
McAvennie hailed Pochettino’s “great reputation” and suggested his failings have been caused by backroom issues.
“I think Chelsea will give him next year,” he told Football Insider.
“I can tell you this, from what I have heard, he will have the summer to sign more players.
“It must be so hard for him there.
“Pochettino has a great reputation but he’s not setting the world on fire there.
“There must be something installed at Chelsea that’s just not right.
“They used to be a big club when Roman Abramovich was there.

“It must be hard as a manager having so many players – it must be soul-destroying.
“But Poch will get the summer to clear some of the players out.”
In other news, Chelsea could sell first-team star even earlier than thought after ‘devastating’ development.
