Chelsea player ratings v Man United: 28-year-old is a 2/10 shocker
By Matt Bullin
Football Insider rates the performances of Chelsea’s players in their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Begovic 5 – Did not have much to do in truth – possibly could have done better with Rashford’s goal and was unlucky with Herrera’s deflected strike.
Zouma 5 – Failed to get out to block Herrera’s shot quick enough, but he did not make any glaring errors. Struggled at right back after Moses’ substitution.
Cahill 5 – Made a bizarre decision to haul Lingard to his feet when his side was still under pressure before Herrera scored. Conte would expect more from his captain in such a big game.
Luiz 6 – Was caught out early as Rashford scored but the Brazilian put in a solid performance overall and tried to start plenty of attacks from deep.
Azpilicueta 6 – Looked reasonably solid at the back. He was one of Chelsea’s best threats going forward – but that speaks volumes about his teammates’ efforts rather than his own.
Moses 4 – Struggled in an unfamiliar position at left wing-back. Was hauled off just eight minutes after the break.
Matic 3 – His normal screen proved ineffective against Rashford and Lingard. His passing was imprecise and the fact he was outplayed by Fellaini says it all.
Kante 4 – Lost the ball which allowed Herrera to score – improved slightly after Fabregas’ introduction. Probably his worst performance in a Chelsea shirt.
Pedro 5 – Anonymous in the first 45. Improved slightly in the second period and had one chance in the second half but he blazed over – could not beat Darmian.
Hazard 4 – Struggled to get into the game as Herrera marked him man-to-man throughout. When he did have opportunities his delivery was poor and he looked short of ideas.
Costa 2 – In Rojo’s pocket all game long, did not look dangerous whatsoever, five games without a goal now.
Subs
Fabregas 7 (on for Moses 54′) – Chelsea looked a much better side after his introduction – his passing was crisp and he looked confident on the ball. Would it have been different if he had started?
Willian 6 (on for Matic 66′) – Failed to make much of an impact when he came on with his side already two goals down.
Loftus-Cheek N/A (on for Zouma 83′)
