Chelsea tipped to complete ‘mouth-watering’ signing after Todd Boehly update – pundit
Noel Whelan has told Chelsea owner Todd Boehly to “get mouths watering” with a “big signing” after temporarily assuming the role of sporting director.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 48-year-old American businessman must prove he has purchased the Stamford Bridge club “for the right reasons”.
Chelsea confirmed on Wednesday (22 June) that Boehly will operate as interim sporting director and chairman after the departures of Marina Granovskaia and Bruce Buck.

The Blues were purchased by a consortium led by Boehly for £4.25billion last month (31 May).
Thomas Tuchel’s side are yet to make a signing this summer despite finishing some 19 points adrift of league winners Man City in the 2021-22 season.
Whelan urged Boehly to “start with a bang” as Chelsea look to replace £97.5million flop Romelu Lukaku.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Now they’ve got the football club, there’s no point standing still.
“[Boehly] now needs to prove that he’s bought the club for the right reasons – and that is to compete at the top of the Premier League.
“They’re letting a massive player go in Lukaku. It’s the right thing to do, but they’ve got to replace him now.
“You’ve got to start with a bang when you come into a football club. You have to get the mouths watering with a big signing, and I’m sure they’ll be working hard.

“They’ll have to spend money. The outlay won’t stop at buying the football club.
“They’ve got to put the money where their mouth is now and really show the intent the fans want to see.”
