Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage in Twitter spat after dig aimed at Rangers v Celtic clash

Chris Sutton has taken a swipe at Robbie Savage after the former Wales midfielder claimed he has seen better Championship games than what took place when Rangers and Celtic drew 0-0 with each other at Parkhead on Saturday.

Savage aimed a dig at the Old Firm fixture, which resulted in a spat between him and fellow BT Sport pundit Sutton as the ex-Celtic striker reminded his colleague that he should know all about the English Championship from playing in it so much in his career.

“Must say I’ve seen better championship games so far that this old firm game,” said Savage on his personal Twitter account on Saturday during the first-half of the all-Glasgow showdown.

That prompted Sutton to respond on his personal Twitter account by saying: “You played in lots of Championship games most of your career so you’d know.”

Former Blackburn and Derby midfielder Savage continued his spat with Sutton by saying that the English second-tier is a “far better level” than the Scottish Premiership, before comparing the Old Firm clash to a non-league game.

“Wonder if Aldershot v Maidstone on BT Sport now will have better quality than that 1st half of Old Firm game,” he added.

Sutton is one of few English advocaters to the Scottish game and regular gets into arguments on social media with fellow Englishmen about the quality of football north of the border.

Saturday’s Old Firm match was no doubt a great advert for the Scottish game though as both sides forced a number of chances to leave fans of both clubs – and even neutrals – on the edge of their seats.
