Chris Sutton: Everton will do very well to hold on to this player
By Amir Mir
Chris Sutton believes “the big guns” will be looking at Everton ace Romelu Lukaku following another spectacular performance from the Belgian striker.
The 23-year-old scored four goals at the weekend against Bournemouth to help his team secure a 6-3 win at Goodison Park.
Lukaku joined the Toffees during the summer of 2014 from Premier League rivals Chelsea where he failed to settle in as a first team player.
However, since his move to Everton, he has grown and shown the goalscoring threat the powerful forward can possess.
Former Premier League winner Sutton lauded Lukaku but believes he may not be at the club much longer.
“I’m a massive fan of Lukaku and Everton will do very well to hold onto him,” Sutton told BBC Radio Five Live. “It’s only a matter of time before, it may upset Everton fans, but are they a top four club? Probably not.
“There are going to be some big guns looking at him.”
Belgian international Lukaku has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, including 16 in 23 league games.
He is on course to break the 20-goal barrier for this campaign with 14 games of the season still to be played.
During his time on Merseyside, Lukaku has netted on 78 occasions, providing 27 assists from 152 matches.
At this moment in time, Ronald Koeman’s men are seventh in the league table on 40 points from 24 games as they will be looking to secure European football at the end of the season.
The Europa League looks like the most realistic target for the Merseyside club as they are seven points off fourth-placed Arsenal.
Nonetheless, they will be looking to build on their win against the Cherries when they take on Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium next Saturday.
In other Everton news, a Sky Sports pundit has stated how this Toffees player has gone under the radar.
