‘Cole Palmer destroyed by Enzo Maresca’ – Chelsea fans erupt

Chelsea supporters believe that Cole Palmer is “regressing” this season under Enzo Maresca following their surprise FA Cup exit.

The Blues were knocked out of the historic competition by Brighton as the Seagulls came from behind to win 2-1 at the Amex Stadium on Saturday (8 February).

A Bart Verbruggen own goal had initially given Maresca’s men the lead, but they failed to increase that as Brighton responded with goals from Georginio Rutter and Kaoru Mitoma pushing them in the hat for the fifth round.

Palmer played the entire 90 minutes against Brighton, but he failed to influence the game as the Blues were dumped out of the competition.

The England international had three shots throughout the game but was only accurate with one of them, while Palmer managed just three touches in the opposition box.

Cole Palmer‘s statistics have fallen off a cliff in recent Chelsea matches

The 22-year-old wasn’t acute with any of his crosses and only managed to be successful with half of his attempted dribbles.

Palmer failed to win half of his ground duels from a defensive perspective and was dispossessed once in a game to forget for the Blues.

Palmer might have struggled against Brighton, but the former Man City academy graduate is still providing statistically.

The Chelsea midfielder has scored 14 goals and provided six assists this season, but none of them have taken place in competitions outside of the Premier League.

However, he remains a long way behind what he managed to provide the team last season where he scored 27 goals and provided 15 assists.

Cole Palmer’s Chelsea output has been questioned by supporters

Palmer’s performances have come under scrutiny at times this season by Chelsea fans who believe that he’s “become just a guy” as “teams are managing him” now.

Fans believe that the attacking midfielder has been “bang average” lately, with Palmer having failed to provide a goal contribution in their previous three matches in all competitions.

Palmer will have the opportunity to remind Chelsea fans what he’s capable of when the Blues return to action on Friday (14 February) against Brighton in the Premier League.
