Collymore: Tottenham signing PL goal machine from rivals is not fantasy
By Amir Mir
Stan Collymore believes it would not be a “fantasy” for Tottenham to make the “left-field” signing of Everton ace Romelu Lukaku after he reportedly rejected a new deal with his club.
Former Liverpool striker Collymore previously urged the north London outfit to “break the bank” and sign the highly-rated Premier League goal machine.
Now, Times correspondent Paul Joyce has claimed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the Belgian international has told his club that he will not sign a new contract.
That bombshell will send shockwaves through the blue half of Merseyside because Lukaku has been a key figure for Ronald Koeman’s side this season.
After the news of Lukaku’s reported contract snub broke, former Premier League forward Collymore reacted on his personal Twitter account.
“My Lukaku fantasy about Tottenham may not seem so left field after all,” said Collymore. “Where next? If they [Tottenham] are ambitious. It has to be.”
The Toffees are chasing Europa League football this term and that is largely down to the goals from Lukaku.
He has played 29 games in all competitions for the club this season, scoring 20 goals, with 19 of those coming in 27 Premier League encounters.
Lukaku was on target when Koeman’s side were beaten 3-2 at Champions League chasing Spurs earlier on in the month with Harry Kane netting a brace.
Furthermore, the former Chelsea forward was on target once again at the weekend when his team picked up an easy three points against West Brom.
During his time at the club, Lukaku has played 156 matches in all competitions, scoring an impressive 81 goals.
In other Tottenham transfer news, it has been revealed that this wonder kid that has been tracked by Spurs for three years has signed a pre-contract.
