Stan Collymore: Tottenham must splash the cash and secure attacker deal
By Dominic Toner
Stan Collymore believes that Tottenham should go all out and sign Everton forward Romelu Lukaku in the summer.
Spurs recorded a comfortable 6-0 victory over Millwall in their FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday, but were dealt a massive blow as talisman Harry Kane was forced off injured.
The 23-year-old was replaced inside the opening 10 minutes with an ankle injury, which could threaten to see him face a long spell on the sidelines.
The north London club have been criticised for the lack of options beyond Kane this season and they may be forced to use their squad players over the next couple of months.
Collymore believes that Everton ace Lukaku would be the perfect solution to Spurs’ problem and they should splash the cash on the Belgium international.

Collymore is confident that a frontline of Kane and Lukaku would excel at White Hart Lane, giving them plenty of options in the scenario of an injury.
“Go and break the bank and get someone who is arguably BETTER than Kane, or at least on the same level, and you know who that would be for me? Romelu Lukaku,” Collymore wrote in his Boyle Sports column. “Imagine either of these fine young strikers in two years time, approaching their best days playing together, or individually, and all of a sudden you just don’t have the problem that Spurs currently face, namely, no Kane, no chance beyond a month or so.
“Chelsea, City, United and Arsenal all arguably would be interested if Rom became available, plus many clubs from abroad would be interested but I can’t stress enough that modern players want to live in London, he’s been in the capital once with Chelsea and the way Spurs play, the creativity behind a solo striker or pairing (flexibility that Spurs need over several tournaments) would fit him hand in glove.”
Kane is currently in direct competition with Lukaku for the Premier League’s golden boot and the pair are tied at the top of the charts with 19 goals.
They have been two of the deadliest finishers in the top-flight during recent seasons and manager Mauricio Pochettino would have huge firepower if they were both at Spurs.
Lukaku is currently under contract under 2019 at the Merseyside club and recently became Everton’s top goal scorer in the Premier League era.
The 23-year-old has become a crucial player for the Toffees and is thriving under Ronald Koeman, but has expressed his desire to play in the Champions League.
