Report: Flashpoint in Newcastle v Brighton under review
By Russell Edge
The alleged stamp involving Brighton’s Tomer Hemed and Newcastle United’s DeAndre Yedlin is being reviewed by the Football Association, according to a report.
The BBC claim on the live football blog (Monday 25/09, 10:24) on their website that the FA are looking over television footage during Brighton’s 1-0 win,
It is also reported that they are set to read referee Andre Marriner’s match report to see if the matter was noted.
The incident took place in the 88th minute of Sunday’s clash at the Amex Stadium, which Brighton won 1-0, with Hemed planting his foot into the calf of the downed American international, although it is unclear whether the action was deliberate.
After the match, Yedlin himself admitted that he thought that the Israeli striker had stamped on him, but could not say if it was an accident or otherwise.
Hemed was the Seagull’s hero on Sunday, scoring the match winner with an acrobatic effort in the second half, and bring an end to Newcastle’s impressive three match winning streak.
The result saw Newcastle slip from fourth, where they sat prior to the weekend’s action, down to ninth, below the likes of Burnley, Huddersfield and Watford.
Their next outing sees them welcome manager Rafael Benitez’s former side Liverpool, who sit fifth, to St James’ Park on Sunday.
In other Newcastle United news, Benitez’s priority in the winter transfer window has been revealed.
