Confirmed: Leeds sign off on two deals in one day
By Danny Wright
Leeds have confirmed that defender Lewie Coyle has joined Fleetwood on a season-long loan deal.
The Whites announced in a post on their official Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the 21-year-old had also penned a new three-year deal which will see his stay at Elland Road extended to 2020.
In what has been two deals in one day for Leeds, Coyle’s future at the club now looks to be secure as he heads to League One to earn first-team experience with Fleetwood to play for former United boss Uwe Rosler.
He will be hoping that the Lancashire outfit will be able to build upon a strong showing last term and mount a challenge to earn promotion to the Championship.
Coyle was on the fringes of Garry Monk’s squad at Elland Road last season, but managed to earn a decent amount of minutes in the senior squad.
He played ten times across all competitions and played a big role in helping the Whites reach the quarter-final of the EFL Cup, in which he featured in a penalty shoot-out win against Fleetwood.
In total, right-back Coyle has made 23 senior appearances for Leeds.
Football Insider Verdict
Leeds have a very exciting academy and Coyle is perhaps one of the top prospects that has recently developed from it. He’s young, hungry and with his future now tied down for three years, could become a starting feature in years to come. The Whites have aided the progression of other full-backs in recent years, showing that they have a certain expertise in that area after Sam Byram and Charlie Taylor burst on to the seen. Bryam is now in the Premier League, and with Taylor set to join him after running out his contract, Coyle could also be a top-flight full-back in the future – hopefully with Leeds.
In other Leeds news, the Whites are set to complete another deal by the end of Wednesday.
