Confirmed: International duo join Rangers
By Harvey Byrne
Rangers have completed the signings of Mexico international duo Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera, it was confirmed on Thursday evening.
The Ibrox giants confirmed on their official club website that the pair had both agreed three-year deals at the club, marking the Gers’ seventh and eighth summer additions.
Herrera, 28, joins from Mexican outfit Veracruz, where he scored six goals in 28 matches in all competitions from the last campaign.
Meanwhile, Pena, 27, also completes a move from Mexico from top-flight team Leon and he managed three goals and one assist in 23 matches in all competitions last season.
Together they have totalled 27 caps for Mexico and the pair will now link up with Rangers as they prepare to face Luxembourg-based side FC Progres Niederkorn next Thursday.
The Ibrox club could have a lot of new faces in their team with Alfredo Morelos, Fabio Cardoso, Daniel Candeias, Ryan Jack, Bruno Alves and Dalcio all also completing moves to Rangers this summer in Pedro Caixinha’s new look squad.
Football Insider verdict:
It has been clear this summer that both Pena and Herrera were main targets for Rangers and while their signings have been a long time coming fans will now be happy to see them confirmed. Neither are too well known in the United Kingdom, which seems to be a common theme with a lot of the Gers’ signings this summer. However, once more Gers supporters will put their faith in Caixinha and hope that he has brought in a couple of successes. The exotic names will also bring some excitement to fans, as they prepare to better last season’s third placed finish.
