Connor Goldson closes in on Rangers move after new talks – sources
Rangers’ fears are growing that Connor Goldson could be prised away from Ibrox this summer amid new talks with Al-Ettifaq.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Rangers are reluctant to let the 31-year-old leave, but would have to consider a “big” offer for him.
Sources say that Steven Gerrard is pushing to get the deal over the line as he is keen to be reunited with the defender who was a crucial part of his SPFL title-winning season.
The early summer signing of Clinton Nsiala will go towards replacing Goldson, but there is a feeling a more experienced option would be required in the transfer market should he leave.
Rangers fear Connor Goldson exit as replacement lined up
Goldson arrived at Ibrox in a £3million move from Brighton in 2018 and has since gone on to make 309 appearances in Scotland, lifting a Scottish League Cup, Scottish Cup and SPFL title.
He has remained an established presence in the first team since his arrival, but inconsistent performances last time out led to questions about his future.
The defender made 48 appearances across all competitions as he remained an important player under Philippe Clement, but his performances towards the end of the season were riddled with errors.
Despite this, Rangers are keen for him to remain at Ibrox, with his experience and usual consistency in defence viewed as crucial to the team.
However, former Gers defender Alan Hutton told Football Insider that an £8million bid for Goldson could be accepted as the club will listen to “decent” offers for the defender.

Football Insider had previously been told that Goldson could look for a move away from Ibrox after falling out of the first team under Philippe Clement.
In other news, Rangers plan to accept a £5million offer for Tom Lawrence.
