Conor Townsend passes Ipswich medical as West Brom move finalised – sources

Conor Townsend has passed an Ipswich Town medical as he finalises his move from West Brom, sources have told Football Insider.

The two clubs have reached a full agreement for the 31-year-old with the fee said to be £500,000.

Townsend will come in as cover for first-choice left-back Leif Davis, who ended last season as the Championship’s top assister with 18.

Ipswich have no intention of letting up this transfer window having already broken their transfer record to bring in Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea for £22 million.

Football Insider revealed (July 31) that Leeds United have pulled out of the race to sign Sammie Szmodics as he favours a move to Ipswich.

Medical passed as Conor Townsend heads to Ipswich Town

Townsend has played a huge role for West Brom since joining the club from Scunthorpe United all the way back in 2017.

The left-back has made 213 appearances for the club including 25 Premier League games in 2020-21, when they were last in the English top flight.

It’s been even longer since Ipswich were in the Premier League, 22 years to be exact and they have every intention of staying there if this season’s transfer business is anything to go by.

The club have already spent over £60 million on new players as manager Kieran McKenna seeks to continue his good work from last season.

In other news, Newcastle United could accept £20+ offer for right-back.
