Cristiano Ronaldo ‘first out the door’ at Man United after new development – pundit

Cristiano Ronaldo will be “the first out the door” at Man United this summer.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 37-year-old’s future.

Footage emerged of Ronaldo smacking a phone out of the hand of a young Everton supporter as he trudged down the tunnel after the final whistle on Saturday (9 April).

The Portuguese apologised for the “outburst” on Instagram (10 April), claiming “it is never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments”.

This came after a source close to Man United told Football Insider (31 March) that the expectation at the top of the club is that Ronaldo will leave at the end of the season.

McAvennie insists there is no place for the Old Trafford “legend” at the club anymore.

“When you have a player like Ronaldo, you have to play to his strengths,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Man United haven’t been doing that. Whoever the new manager is, he probably won’t build this team around Ronaldo.

“So I think he will be first out of the door in the summer. The manager won’t want him and he doesn’t want to be there.

“You can see the frustration in what he did with the kid’s phone, he’s fed up.

“I honestly think it’s the best for everyone at this point. He is still a legend there and he has had a decent season.

“But I don’t see him there next season.”

Ronaldo has scored 18 goals in 33 games this season.

Man United are next in action against Norwich on Saturday (16 April).
