Cristiano Ronaldo may launch Man United U-turn after latest twist – pundit

Cristiano Ronaldo could stay at Man United for the 2022-23 campaign, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Ronaldo will cause no issues once he is reintegrated back into the Man United squad.

The 37-year-old has been training alone as Erik ten Hag’s squad are on their pre-season tour of Singapore and Australia due to personal reasons.

As quoted by the Guardian earlier this week (18 July) Ten Hag revealed he does not know whether Ronaldo will return to Carrington when the squad return next week.

The Times reported at the beginning of the month (2 July) that the superstar forward wants to quit Old Trafford this summer if a satisfactory offer comes in.

He still has a year left to run on his contract and Ten Hag suggested his stay could go beyond next season as the club have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

Asked whether Ronaldo will cause any issues when returning to training, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t think so, no.

“As much as everyone is saying he wants to leave, has anyone seen quotes from himself? Has anyone heard from himself saying he wants to leave?

“Until you hear it from him you have to take it with a pinch of salt.

“I’m sure someone like Ronaldo will fit straight back into the squad once he’s back.”

Man United

Ronaldo scored 24 times in 38 games across all competitions for Man United in 2021-22.

He won the club’s player of the season award as they finished sixth in the Premier League and failed in the cup competitions.

In other news, a club has agreed in principle to sign a Man United 22-year-old who is on the pre-season tour.
