Crystal Palace ace shocks pundits at Newcastle as Oliver Glasner faces sack
Daniel Munoz caused shock as Crystal Palace drew 1-1 vs Newcastle with Oliver Glasner under pressure from the sack.
The Colombian missed an “absolute sitter” with the game goalless on 30 November to produce disbelieving reactions from a series of pundits who highlighted the need for such chances to be taken if the Eagles are to climb out of trouble.
After Eddie Howe’s side had punished the profligacy via a Marc Guehi own goal it was Munoz, incredibly, who stole a point in the 94th minute as he headed home an equaliser.
Football Insider revealed, Crystal Palace were not considering hiring Ruud van Nistelrooy amid building pressure at Selhurst Park, although the Eagles have been tipped to remove the Austrian to avoid relegation.
When Palace broke with pace from a first-half Newcastle corner Munoz was perfectly positioned at the back post as the ball was sent low across Pope’s goal. It seemed like a certain goal, but the right wing-back sent it wide from just six yards out.
Kris Boyd said on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (3.40pm): “I cannot believe Munoz has missed that opportunity at the back post there. It was an absolute sitter, and if you’re going to get yourself out of the trouble Crystal Palace are in you’ve got to take chances like that”.
Former Man City Midfielder Michael Brown reacted on BBC Radio 5 Live (3:37pm): “This is an incredible miss. He cannot miss that chance at this quality in the Premier League. It was a brilliant counter-attack and he was just there with a simple tap in and he’s put it past the post.”
Chris Sutton commented on BBC Final Score, “Daniel Munoz sees the ball come all the way – he is four yards out. We all thought it was in – he cannot miss a chance like that. Moments like this are so vital. Palace need to climb out of the relegation zone and they cannot miss opportunities like that.”

Football Insider opinion
The draw leaves the Eagles in the relegation zone with just nine points, struggling near the bottom of the Premier League. They’ve only managed to score 11 goals this season, the third-lowest tally in the league, highlighting their ongoing struggles in front of goal.
The London club’s struggles in attack have been glaring this season, and the pressure is mounting on manager Glasner.

The departure of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich in the summer left a significant void in their offensive threat, and the team has failed to replace his creativity and flair.
Jean-Philippe Mateta, expected to lead the line, has only scored three goals this season, while Eberechi Eze, once a key player for the Eagles, has found the back of the net just once.
With only 11 goals scored in the Premier League so far, Palace’s attack has been one of the least potent in the league, sitting with the third-lowest tally.
The Eagles current points tally is their lowest since the 2018/19 season, highlighting their ongoing issues, and Munoz embodied the disjointed nature of this side against the Magpies but crucially saved his manager a seventh Premier League defeat.
