Crystal Palace, Borussia Dortmund: Leader named in race to sign Oscar Bobb

Borussia Dortmund are currently leading Crystal Palace in the race to sign Man City star Oscar Bobb on loan this month.

Bobb has struggled for game time and form at Man City this season, with just one goal and assist each in 17 appearances so far.

The 22-year-old’s development has slowed down in recent times due to recurring injury woes, after a broken leg also restricted him to making just four appearances in 2024-25.

Football Insider revealed last month that Crystal Palace are eyeing a January move for Bobb, but they are not the only club keen on his signature for the remainder of the season.

Borussia Dortmund are also keen on striking a deal for Bobb, and they currently lead the way in the race to land him before the 2 February deadline, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

Dortmund are the frontrunners to sign Bobb with permanent deal considered

Football Insider have also revealed that Bobb would be open to leaving the Etihad Stadium this month as he seeks more game time ahead of possibly heading to the World Cup with Norway.

City are reportedly prepared to let the winger leave on an initial loan this month, with the potential for a permanent option to be included in the deal as Dortmund chase his signature alongside Palace.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I’d probably say Borussia Dortmund are favourites for him.

If they can agree a deal with Manchester City, whether that’s a loan with an option to sign, I think that’s probably the most likely avenue for Oscar Bobb to leave.

If everybody’s fit at Manchester City, he’s probably not going to get too many minutes at City, so it would probably suit all parties if he was to move on.

Palace planning numerous attacking additions amid Sidiki Cherif pursuit

Palace are looking to bolster Oliver Glasner‘s squad in numerous positions this month following a poor run of form that has seen them slip to 12th in the Premier League.

Brennan Johnson has already joined the Eagles from Spurs for around £35million, and their winter spending could soon move above £50m if a deal is struck to sign Cherif.

The Eagles have enquired about Angers striker Cherif, who has scored four goals in his 18 appearances so far across all competitions.

Palace will be hoping that their campaign does not fall apart from now on in, with Marc Guehi on his way out and Glasner set to leave in the summer, and signing both Bobb and Cherif would be a huge boost to their chances of more success in the Premier League and Europe.
