Daniel Sturridge urges Jeremy Doku to do one thing after ‘magnificent’ Man City goal vs Liverpool

Jeremy Doku stole the headlines as Manchester City secured a convincing 3-0 win over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

Following Doku’s outstanding performance against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, the Belgian speedster kept his place on the left wing and produced a sensational display.

The 23-year-old utilised his devastating pace and fleet-footed dribbling to cause chaos against right-back Conor Bradley, while proving his end product is just as good.

Gary Neville gave Doku the Man of the Match in the 62nd minute after he powered his curled effort into the top right corner to give City a 3-0 lead.

But as Pep Guardiola’s men closed the gap on Arsenal to just four points, the exciting winger has already been told one area he can work on.

Daniel Sturridge tells Jeremy Doku to add more goals to his game

Doku’s trademark shimmy is unstoppable for any defender, and that is how he fashioned the space to score against the Reds.

74 minutes played
1 goal
3 shots on target
3 key passes
4 fouls drawn
7/8 successful dribbles
11/14 ground duels won

Speaking about the former Rennes wide man on Sky Sports, Daniel Sturridge waxed lyrical over his performance and said he’s ‘one of the hardest’ to defend against.

“If you look at Doku’s style of play, he’s one of the hardest players for defenders to go up against,” Sturridge said.

“He’s so direct, he can go either way, his power output over a short space when he drops his shoulder and goes, everyone he plays against – he’s going to cause problems.

“Talking about his dribbling, he completes so many and creates so many chances and right now, in his mind, he has a plan.”

But there is always room for any player to improve, and at the age of just 23, the former Liverpool striker has urged Doku to add more goals to his game at City.

“Sometimes players who are dribblers don’t necessarily know what they’re going to do. But now he’s getting himself into areas where he knows he’s going to go left or right,” he added.

“The goal today was magnificent. The only thing he needs to add is more of them.”

How many goals Doku has scored for Man City

To become a truly world-class winger, Doku – who has been praised by Alan Shearer – must start hitting double figures for goals and assists every season, something he’s not achieved yet at City.

Guardiola’s No.11 has never been the most potent in the final third, only just showing glimpses of his potential in 2025/26.

As of November 9, 2025, Doku has scored just 17 goals and provided 24 assists in 100 appearances for the Cityzens, with his best individual campaign coming in 2023/24.

The Belgian international plundered six goals and assisted 10 in all competitions, and that is a total he can beat this season.

So far, he has seven goal involvements, but if he can produce consistent match-winning displays, he will surely triple that total at least.
