Danny Mills points the finger at Pep Guardiola and Man City star after key reveal – ‘It doesn’t look great’

Danny Mills has pointed the finger at Pep Guardiola and Ruben Dias after Man City were dramatically dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday (4 May).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-City and England defender insisted Guardiola has questions to answer after his side conceded twice in quick succession at the end of normal time.

Dias conceded a penalty five minutes into added time which Karim Benzema converted to wrap up a 3-1 win on the night and a 6-5 victory on aggregate.

They will now face Liverpool in the final in Paris later this month (28 May).

“It’s really difficult to put your finger on it but it keeps happening time and time again,” Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“Maybe mentality takes a lot longer to build. When you turn up to Real Madrid who have won 13 Champions Leagues, there is no excuses.

“It’s possibly the same at Liverpool and Man United, and I know Man United are down at the moment but the expectation is huge and you don’t lose finals.

“Clearly there is nervousness. Ruben Dias did not have to make that tackle. He’s an exceptional defender and that was a little bit out of character. Benzema teased him in and when he has the chance he’s going to go down.

“Miguel Delaney tweeted about Guardiola’s exits in the Champions League and how many goals they concede in quick succession. It doesn’t look great.

“You can’t take anything away from him because he’s an amazing coach but you start to wonder why he’s not won the Champions League since he left Barcelona.

“He had a treble-winning side at Bayern and this is a Man City side that have broken Premier League records.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola with his hand on his head

“Since the likes of Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure have left do you see City die for the cause in the last moments in those sorts of games? I’m not sure you do.

“If you are going to go to that next level you have to have that win at all costs mentality forget anything else.”

In other news, Man City have been tipped to sign the new Sergio Aguero and sell a senior star after an update.
