Deal done: Arsenal midfield lynchpin seals exit
By Abigail Withey
Arsenal have announced that midfielder Jon Toral has left the club to join newly relegated side Hull City on a permanent deal.
The Gunners confirmed via their official Twitter account and official website on Tuesday that the 22-year-old had sealed his exit from the Emirates and has agreed terms with the Championship club.
The Spaniard joined Arsenal back in 2011 and became a regular member of the Under-23 squad, where he established himself as a real midfield lynchpin with his ability to play in attacking or defensive roles.
Toral spent a few seasons away from Arsenal when he took part in a number of loan spells at clubs including Brentford, Birmingham City, Granada, and Rangers.
While on loan at Birmingham City during 2015/16 season, the midfielder was awarded a number of accolades including the both the players’ and the supporters’ Player of the Season as well as goal of the season.
Football Insider Verdict
A move to a lower league club is a great decision for Toral as he has proven that he is well suited to the Championship after having an incredibly successful season with Birmingham City back in 2015/16. By moving to Hull, the versatile midfielder will be able to break into the senior team, which looked a little unlikely while Toral was at Arsenal. A number of the Spaniard’s youth squad team mates had been chosen to move up to the Arsenal first-team, with Reiss Nelson travelling away with the squad on their pre-season tour and then making his competitive senior debut during the Community Shield.
In other Arsenal transfer news, a report has claimed that the club are in talks with Manchester City over one of their star players.
