Rodgers must sell him: Defender is Celtic flop of 2016
COMMENT By Dominic Toner
Football Insider names Celtic’s flop of the year for 2016.
The Bhoys defender Kolo Toure has been the club’s flop of the year after failing to impress since his summer arrival.
Celtic romped to the league title in the first half of 2016 and are currently unbeaten domestically this season, but they do still have some weaknesses in their squad.
Manager Brendan Rodgers should sell centre-back Toure and invest in a better defensive option in the January transfer window.
Toure moved to the Scottish champions in July on a one-year deal and was expected to add some vital experience to their squad.
The 35-year-old has had a fantastic career and was not expected to play every week, but has looked extremely vulnerable when given the opportunity.
He has a very small chance of dislodging Jozo Simunovic or Erik Sviatchenko from the starting XI and Rodgers should be looking to introduce some youngsters to his squad.
Toure has made 13 appearances this season across all competitions and the side have kept just two clean sheets with him playing.
The defender has understandably lost a yard of pace at 35 and he is not a player that can lead Celtic to a league title.
Toure had been performing to a high standard with Liverpool in the last three years, but he has proved during his spell with the club that he is long past his peak.
He has featured just three times in Scottish Premiership since October and is not a long-term option for Rodgers.
