‘Definitely an issue’ – Exclusive: Bent admits injury concern over top Tottenham star

Darren Bent admits he is concerned about the fitness levels of Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele after his recent performances.

The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes there is clearly an issue with the Frenchman after struggling for regular starts.

The 23-year-old, who is the club’s record signing, has come off the bench in Tottenham’s last two games, both of which ended in defeat to Wolves and Norwich respectively.

With just 11 Premier League starts under his belt since joining the club, Bent admits he has doubts over the midfielder’s ability to stay fit and firing.

Bent told Football Insider: “You just wonder what kind of shape he’s in injury-wise and is he carrying a little knock or can’t get quite up to speed?

“You have players who take a little while to adjust and we’ve seen it, when he comes on he’s got the ability, he goes past people, he’s powerful, he’s strong, he creates things but for whatever reason, he can’t seem to consistently put it together without something going on.

“That’s definitely an issue for the medical staff to look at, the fitness instructors, because it is a bit of a concern and he’s one of your best players.”

Ndombele has a total of 26 games under his belt for Spurs since his summer move, with two goals and four assists to show for his efforts.

Mourinho, who has called the France international “amazing“, has also called him out for his fitness struggles, highlighting his struggles to remain available for selection.

In other Tottenham news, Bent insists the “writing’s on the wall” for one Spurs player.
