Most definitely on Rangers radar: Recruitment drive stepped up as playmaker from top-flight club in sights – report
Rangers are in the hunt to sign Hamilton creative midfielder Greg Docherty this month, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim that the Light Blues are interested in Docherty, 21, who has impressed at their SPFL rivals this season with his brilliant playmaking abilities.
It is said that the Hamilton ace is “most definitely on Rangers’ radar” as they continue the recruitment drive that has already secured the signing of central midfielder Sean Goss and has brought them close to landing winger Jamie Murphy from Brighton.
Docherty has been in top form in the Scottish top flight this season and even played a starring role in helping the Accies beat Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox in November.
The Scotland Under-21 international has made 25 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and supplying six assists.
Docherty has represented Scotland at two different youth levels but has previously admitted that he may switch allegiances to play for the Republic of Ireland in the future.
Football Insider verdict:
Rangers are in dire need of central midfield talent as they completely overhaul the squad that has misfired in the opening half of the campaign. With Carlos Pena heading out of the exit door and a number of arrivals from last summer set to follow him, Rangers’ need for new blood is pressing, especially as Graham Dorrans, Ryan Jack and Jordan Rossiter are all injured. Andy Halliday is set to cut short his loan at Gabala and he will offer experience and a Rangers heart, but the club need better quality and someone like Docherty can provide that, both short and medium term. The Gers best make a move quickly though because Celtic are hoovering up all the best young talent in Scotland at the moment, as they proved with their Friday capture of Lewis Morgan from St Mirren.
In other Rangers transfer news, the club have rejected a new bid from Sheffield United for one of their star players.
