Dejan Kulusevski exit major warning: ‘If Tottenham are not careful’

Dejan Kulusevski could leave Tottenham if the club are “not careful” and could have his pick of where to go, Owen Hargreaves has warned.

It has been a poor season so far for Spurs, with the club currently 15th in the Premier League just eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Kulusevski though has been one shining light for Ange Postecoglou’s side throughout the course of the campaign so far.

The Sweden international has so far scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 33 appearances for Tottenham this season.

Now Hargreaves has suggested that if Kulusevski continues in that form he could attract attention that Spurs will find hard to fend off if they do not improve their own form.

Speaking about the winger on TNT Sports ahead of Spurs’ clash in the Europa League with Hoffenheim on Thursday (23 January), the former Manchester United and England midfielder said (5:34):

“He’s just a class player and the thing is if Tottenham are not careful, as good a squad as they have, he could go play for anyone.

“I think he’s really that good and they’re fortunate that he’s been as consistent as he has. Him and [Dominic] Solanke have kind of helped carry this team but they need the other boys to step up.”

Ange Postecoglou will fear Dejan Kulusevski Tottenham exit

Football Insider Verdict

In what has been an extremely underwhelming season so far, Postecoglou has already been under plenty of pressure this season.

The Australian would therefore see it as a major blow if Kulusevski was to leave Tottenham at some point in the near future.

Having bailed his team and manager out on several occasions, Spurs could slip up even more if he leaves, making it increasingly hard for Postecoglou to keep his job.

Kulusevski though will know that he can play at a much higher level than a team sat 15th in the Premier League, especially as they are likely relying on Europa League success to remain in Europe next season.

That could therefore make an exit from Tottenham tempting for him, especially considering other clubs could be tempted to move for a player performing as well as he is in a troubled side.

With that in mind their excellent start against Hoffenheim in that game may have been a relief for Spurs for a number of reasons, having gone into a 2-0 lead via James Maddison and Son Heung-min.
