‘Desperate’ – Rangers boss Graeme Murty makes honest revelation over Celtic clash

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has revealed that he can’t wait to experience his first game Old Firm game at Ibrox, in a match he knows that his side must win.

Murty, who has previously managed the Light Blues to two draws at Celtic Park, has taken his side to within six points of their bitter rivals, and if they manage to pull off the victory on Sunday they will throw the title race wide open.

The Englishman is looking forward to the unique atmosphere that the match will have, as most Gers fans believe that the club can get the win.

“I’m desperate to experience the atmosphere,” he honestly admitted, as quoted by BT Sport.

“Obviously I have been to their ground, and I enjoyed the atmosphere, but this is ours, and this will be special.

“To be a manager of Rangers Football Club in an Old Firm game at home will be possibly the biggest moment of my career so far. It’s something I am really looking forward to.

“I will reiterate though, I will really enjoy those things when you do your job properly.”

The Gers have improved massively since the recruitment in January of the likes of Jamie Murphy, Jason Cummings and Gary Docherty, will all three players set to make their Old Firm debuts in the match.

Football Insider verdict

You can’t blame Murty for looking forward to the match, as not only will he be experiencing his first experience of the derby at Ibrox, but the Gers are in a great run of form. In Murty’s previous two matches against Celtic as Gers manager, the team has gone into the game as rank outsiders, but that does not seem to be the case on this occasion, and it will be interesting to see how the players cope with that. Even if the match doesn’t go as expected for Murty, he should be exempt from any criticism as he has managed to drag the Light Blues into a title race which very few thought they would be in.
