‘Didn’t offer a threat’- BBC pundit criticises Celtic first teamer after international performance

BBC pundit Steven Thompson has heaped huge criticism on Celtic defender Kieran Tierney after his performance for the Scotland national team on Sunday.

The 20-year-old started from the outset for Gordon Strachan’s side as Scotland drew 2-2 with Slovenia away from home.

The result meant that Scotland failed to qualify for next year’s World Cup finals in Russia, finishing in third place in Group F behind Slovakia who boasted a better goal difference.

Similar to the rest of his fellow teammates, Tierney was unable to assert his authority on the match with the Scots failing to find their rhythm throughout the 90 minutes.

Expression his opinion on the official BBC Sports website, former international Thompson issued a damning assessment of the youngster’s display on the night.

“The Celtic defender hasn’t looked as comfortable at right-back in these last two games,” he wrote.

“Booked early on for a poor challenge and didn’t offer a threat going forward likes he does for his club.”

The defender has fared better at club level with the SPL champions this season, contributing with one goal and three assists for the first-team in all competitions.

The youngster’s performances for the Hoops have helped the side remain unbeaten in the domestic campaign this season and they are currently at the top of the table.

The Scotland international will look to bounce back from international disappointment when the Hoops welcome Dundee to Celtic Park this weekend.

In other Celtic news, the Hoops deployed their scouts to this crucial international fixture.
