Dimitri Payet delivers Twitter message after West Ham exit
By Amir Mir
Dimitri Payet has stated on Twitter that he is “going back home” after he completed a move from West Ham to Marseille.
The club confirmed on its official Twitter account on Sunday that the 29-year-old has returned back to his former club after a £25million fee was agreed with the Ligue 1 outfit.
Payet had not featured for the Hammers since their 5-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup earlier on in the month where he came on as a second-half substitute.
The Frenchman had demanded a move back to his home country which resulted in the club making him train with the Under-23 squad.
After the confirmation that he was leaving the Premier League club, this is what Payet posted on his personal Twitter account.
“We’re going back home,” said Payet, posting a picture of an aircraft.
Payet joined the east London club during the summer of 2015 from Marseille with his performances instantly winning plaudits from fans.
Last season, he played 44 games in all competitions for the club, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists – he went on to win the Hammers’ Player of the Year for that campaign.
However, this term his form dropped as West Ham stuttered – he played 22 games in all competitions, scoring just two goals and supplying eight assists.
Bilic’s side have decided to bring in Scotland international Robert Snodgrass as his replacement after the playmaker made a switch from Premier League rivals Hull City on Friday.
