Diogo Dalot: Man United insider shares transfer update today

Diogo Dalot remains an important part of Ruben Amorim’s plans despite concerns about his recent performances for Man United.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at United during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the defender’s ability to play in a number of positions makes him a valuable asset.

This comes as Man United fans, including Roy Keane, have grown frustrated with the full-back’s inconsistent performances in recent weeks.

However, it has been said that Amorim will make it clear what he wants to see from the 25-year-old in the coming weeks and will look to see a marked improvement.

Dalot has largely filled in at left-back or as an inverted full-back so far this season, displaying versatility which makes him an important member of the squad during plenty of uncertainty.

As a result, Brown has insisted United are not actively looking to move him on, and there are no concerns about his future as they approach the January transfer window.

Diogo Dalot unlikely to leave Man United in January

The Portuguese full-back has been a regular in the United side under Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and now Amorim, making 22 appearances across all competitions this season.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and has worked closely with the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, has now insisted that Amorim will be keeping an eye on how he adjusts to the new system.

One thing about him is he’s always been in the team,” he told Football Insider.

“Whether that’s at left-back, right-back, or as the inverted full-back moving into midfield.

“He’s played in a number of roles but he’s always been in the team, so if he’s not there, who is?

“Amorim will make it clear what he wants to see from Dalot, and he’ll want to see an improvement on his recent performances which have left a bit to be desired.

“But that is the case for a few players, the manager will want to see how they cope in his system.

“He’s the type of player where he takes risks in possession which can often lead to worrying moments.

“But I think he’s an important player for United.

“His ability to play in a number of positions, and do so fairly consistently, has made him a good option even if it’s just for rotation or as a backup.

“I can’t see him leaving the club in January and I’d be surprised if they actively looked to move him on.”
