Divock Origi’s Premier League return now on the cards, he’s perfect for relegation strugglers

Divock Origi has just agreed a deal that could see him make a sensational return to the Premier League in the January transfer window.

The Belgian has been away from English football since his loan spell with Nottingham Forest concluded back in 2024, but that could be about to change next month.

Origi made over 100 appearances for Liverpool during a seven-year spell earlier in his career, and he notably scored in their Champions League Final success over Tottenham in 2019.

He has been plying his trade for AC Milan since his departure from Anfield in the summer of 2022, but Massimiliano Allegri’s side are about to spark another change for him in January.

Premier League strugglers to take note as Divock Origi agrees contract termination

Origi was briefly linked with a move to Wolves back in 2020, and the Premier League’s bottom club may now have a desire to renew that interest after what has just happened at the San Siro.

The frontman has just agreed to terminate his contract with AC Milan, meaning that he will become a free agent in January, according to Fabrizio Romano via his X account.

That will surely prompt clubs at the bottom end of the Premier League table to sit up and take note, as they will have the opportunity to sign a player with ample top-flight experience without paying any sort of fee.

Origi is still only 30 and has plenty left to give, providing that he can find the right manager to help get him back to his best form.

The likes of Burnley, Wolves and Leeds United are all crying out for more firepower to help their bids to beat the drop, and the ex-Liverpool star could be the ideal way to address that need without spending big.

Origi scored some hugely important goals for the Reds over the years, and he knows what it takes to be an effective option in the Premier League.

West Ham move perfect for Divock Origi

Leeds have also been linked with Origi in the past, but it is actually West Ham who have shown the most recent interest in him.

The Hammers were linked with the former Lille man in 2023, and he was understood to be interested in a return to the Premier League at that stage, according to West Ham Zone.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are once again crying out for attacking reinforcements, with Niclas Fullkrug seemingly heading for the exit imminently, and Callum Wilson’s fitness notoriously unreliable.

Origi is not the sort of glamorous target that West Ham usually try and go for, but given David Sullivan’s reputation for cost-effective signings, it would be no surprise at all to see this deal come to fruition in the coming weeks.

A return to the Premier League would undoubtedly appeal to Origi at this stage of his career, and West Ham may be the club that are willing to facilitate that for him.
