Done deal: Newcastle 24-year-old completes summer transfer

By Matt Farr

Newcastle attacking-midfielder Haris Vuckic has completed a move to FC Twente ahead of the new season, it has been confirmed.

The Premier League club announced on their official Twitter account and website on Friday that the 24-year-old had agreed a deal to call-time on his eight-and-a-half-year stay at St. James’ Park.

Vuckic is set to become a free agent when his contract expired at the end of the month, and has put pen-to-paper on a three-year-deal with Dutch Eredivisie outfit FC Twente.

The one-time Slovenia international found first-team opportunities at Newcastle severely limited, and managed just 19 appearances in all competitions.

He was regularly dispatched on loan throughout his stay on Tyneside, and spent the first-half of the 2016-17 season on loan at League One outfit Bradford City, where he made 14 appearances.

Vuckic also had spells on loan at Cardiff City, Rotherham United, Rangers and Wigan Athletic, while he served a short spell on trial with FC Twente back in March.

But he has now sealed a permanent switch to the Dutch club ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Newcastle’s decision to let Vuckic leave the club at the end of his contract this summer was far from a surprise, after he was omitted from their official retained list, which was published earlier this month. But it is pleasing to see that the midfielder is set to land on his feet and sign a deal with relatively a high-profile club. Vuckic was starved of opportunities with the Magpies, but the player can start afresh and play an important role in the first-team for FC Twente for at least the next three years.

In other Newcastle transfer news, a reliable journalist claims that the club are interested in signing this versatile midfielder from Italy.
