Early Tottenham team news: Pochettino to start young attacker v Barnsley – report

By Harvey Byrne

Mauricio Pochettino will hand a start to young attacker Dele Alli in Tottenham’s Tuesday evening EFL Cup clash against Barnsley, according to a report.

The Mirror have claimed via their website that the 21-year-old will be placed in the starting eleven to face the Championship club at Wembley in a bid to rediscover his form.

The young star has already bagged two goals in five Premier League outings, but he also struggled to make an impact in the 2-1 defeat against Chelsea alongside the weekend’s 0-0 draw against Swansea.

He is also unavailable to play in two more of Tottenham’s midweek Champions League matches after receiving a suspension in the last campaign and Pochettino may be looking to keep his fitness up alongside helping him find his form.

Alli, like fellow star Harry Kane did however also have a difficult start to the last campaign, which saw him bag just the one goal in his first six Premier League matches.

This means that Spurs fans won’t be too concerned about one of their key players for now, but worries will start to emanate if he continues to struggle in a Tottenham shirt, especially against Barnsley on Tuesday.

In other Tottenham news, a journalist has suggested this rising star will also be in the squad against Barnsley.
