Efrain Juarez raves about Rangers 29-year-old, compares him to England international
By Danny Wright
Former Celtic player Efrain Juarez believes that Rangers must be patient with summer signings Eduardo Herrera and Carlos Pena after underwhelming starts to life at Ibrox.
The Mexican duo were snapped up by Pedro Caixinha in the summer transfer window as the manager completely overhauled the Gers’ first-team.
However Pena and Herrera are two players that have not been enjoying themselves as much as others in what has been a very mixed start to the campaign for the Light Blues.
Ex-Parkhead man Juarez became the first Mexican player to feature in the Scottish top-flight when he joined the Hoops in 2010 but he became quickly seen as a flop by the fans after making just a handful of appearances in two years before he moved back to his home nation.
Juarez is hopeful that the two Rangers players can do better than him in their time at Ibrox.
“Every person is different and it could be they will finish better and it’ll be the opposite from my own situation. I really hope that’s the case because they’re Mexican and I want them to be successful even if my heart is green and white,” he said to the Daily Record.
“They have what it takes to be successful. Carlos is a good player and a threat – he scored a lot in Mexico but he had more time on the ball than in Scotland, where they’re only thinking about getting to goal as quickly as possible.”
Juarez also raved about the ability of 29-year-old Herrera, and even compared his style to that of England international Andy Carroll.
“Herrera is also a top-quality striker, a typical No.9. He’s good with his head and also physical, a bit like Andy Carroll,” he added.
“But my message to Rangers fans is to give Carlos and Eduardo time. If they show patience I promise they’ll be good players who’ll be greatly appreciated.”
Herrera has made just eight appearances this term for the Gers, scoring two goals in the process which came against Ross County and Partick Thistle.
He has started just one Premiership fixture under the charge of Caixinha, who appears to have preferred Alfredo Morelos and – up until recent events – Kenny Miller up front.
