‘Embarrassing’ – Thompson savages Celtic star for behaviour in clash v Rangers

Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has savaged Celtic star Moussa Dembele for his “embarrassing” behaviour after being substituted in Saturday’s Old Firm clash.

The French striker took his time to applaud all sides of a sold-out Celtic Park in what looked suspiciously like a farewell from the 21-year-old.

Dembele has been the subject of speculation over his Celtic future since almost the minute he arrived in Glasgow but it now seems as if the 0-0 draw with Rangers was his swansong in the Hoops.

Thompson believes Dembele should have got off the pitch quickly after having a “stinker” instead of milking the adulation from the home supporters.

“It was embarrassing,” Thompson told BBC Scotland’s Sportsound, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“He’s had a shocker. Just get off the pitch and get your stuff on.

“I thought it was terrible from him.”

The France Under-21 international has scored 40 times in 70 appearances for the Parkhead giants after being released by Fulham.

Dembele has struggled for regular game-time for Brendan Rodgers’ side in recent weeks with Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard both preferred to the Frenchman at different points in the campaign.

During his time in Glasgow, Dembele has lifted the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and a pair of Scottish League Cups.

So far this season Dembele has scored 8 times in 21 appearances for the Scottish champions and last hit the net in the Scottish League Cup final win over Motherwell.
