England fans have slammed Conor Gallagher online following the midfielder’s display in the nation’s goalless draw with Slovenia.
The Group C finale in Cologne does qualify the Three Lions for the last 16 of Euro 2024 as group winners, but many supporters are left feeling uninspired as Gareth Southgate’s side scored just twice and managed five points from a possible nine.
Gallagher was hooked at half-time by Southgate for Kobbie Mainoo after being given the nod to start ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the only change from last Thursday’s draw with Denmark.
The 24-year-old is largely popular at Chelsea having been a mainstay in the side throughout last season and captaining the Blues, and as Football Insider reported [17 June], he has been the subject of considerable interest from Champions League-bound Aston Villa, among others.
Gallagher’s start against Slovenia – also through as a third-placed side – handed him his 16th senior cap.
