Erik ten Hag has forced out Man United ‘joker’ after ‘shambolic’ twist – pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Erik ten Hag may be the real reason Ralf Rangnick is not taking up his consultancy role at Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker slammed Rangnick as a “joker” and the latest development in his United career is “another episode in the shambles of Man United”.

The Premier League giants confirmed at the weekend (29 May) that the 64-year-old’s time at the club had come to an end prematurely and he will not be taking up his consultancy role.

Initially appointed as interim manager in November, the German led United to their lowest-ever points tally as they finished sixth on 58 points in the 2021-22 season.

As quoted by the Athletic at his unveiling last month (23 May), Ten Hag was unusually coy about Rangnick’s role and claimed it was up to the club.

And Agbonlahor has suggested he may be the man responsible for his exit.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “If I’m Ten Hag, I would say ‘This joker’s got to go’. That’s what’s happened.

“It’s another episode in the shambles of Man United. Ten Hag thought ‘You’re a joker, you. Just go’.

“Man United are just a shambles at the moment. They need to start doing some business.

“When Man United go to St. James’ Park or these stadiums then they are going to get turned over.

“Nobody is scared of them anymore.”

Man United

United ended the 2021-22 season with just one win in their final seven Premier League games.

Their last away win was a 4-2 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road in February.

In other news, Man United could now sign Mohamed Salah after a ‘bizarre’ Liverpool update.
