Erik Ten Hag tipped to bin Man United stars in ‘massive rebuild’ after release clause reveal – ex-manager

Alex McLeish has tipped Erik ten Hag to offload several Manchester United stars in a “massive rebuild” this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland boss suggested the 52-year-old would want to “disrupt” the dressing room at Old Trafford and “stamp his personality” on the team.

As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (11 April), Man United are set to trigger Ten Hag’s £1.7million release clause at Ajax to make him their new manager.

A United source told this site they expect the Dutchman to accept their offer to take charge.

McLeish insisted Ten Hag would want to make immediate changes at Old Trafford.

He suggested several regular starters could be sold in an overhaul of the squad.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He has to find a formula that suits those players. He’s going to want to bring in and stamp his personality on that team.

“It’s not as if I can second guess what he has to do. He just has to get a Man United team who win every week. He won’t want to do that without putting his imprint on it.

“That is getting his players in, reducing the squad and getting some money in. I certainly think that he will be probably disrupting the regular XI, the status quo.

“He’s got a lot of work to do. I think there will be a massive rebuild. The problem is there has to be an instant massive rebuild.

“When you’ve got good players, you’ve got a chance. The players they have, yes, I’m sure some of them will make the cut, but not all of them are at the level they should be.”
