Erling Haaland could have major impact on Arsenal striker swoop after journalist’s update – pundit

Paul Robinson has tipped Arsenal to complete a deal for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England keeper said City would be willing to sell them the 25-year-old as they’re not seen as “a direct threat.”

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (22 April), technical director Edu has held discussions with Jesus’s representatives regarding a transfer.

The Brazil international is said to be open to the idea of a move to the Emirates to play under Mikel Arteta.

Jesus has been in inspired form of late and has scored six goals in his last four starts.

His contract at the Etihad expires at the end of June 2023.

Robinson believes Erling Haaland’s impending move to the Etihad could be a major factor in a potential deal for Jesus.

“If Haaland goes to City I can see Jesus going to Arsenal,” he told Football Insider.

“City will not see Arsenal as a direct threat to them. It will take a few years for Mikel Arteta to get them on the level of City.

“If Jesus is to leave, I imagine he would be keen on a move to Arsenal. The move would make a lot of sense if he wants to stay in this country.”

Man City

As reported by Daily Mail (20 April), City are preparing to activate the Haaland’s £62million release clause.

It is said that the striker could sign a £500,000-a-week contract at the Etihad.
