Erling Haaland likely to exploit Man City as he’s a ‘Leeds fan in his heart’ – Mills

Erling Haaland may see Man City as a stepping stone to Real Madrid but his view will change if he is a success at the Etihad, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-City and England defender claimed Haaland could win the Ballon d’Or if he is part of a side dominating the Premier League and winning the Champions League.

The club confirmed last week (10 May) that they have reached an agreement for the 21-year-old to join this summer.

The Telegraph reported on Friday (13 May) that Haaland will have a release clause in his City contract “significantly” more than £128million.

“If he goes there and does well and they’re winning the Champions League and the Premier League what’s the point in moving?” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Unless he wants to and Real Madrid is a dream club. I’m not sure it was bearing in mind he’s from Norway and was born in Leeds. In his heart, he’s probably a Leeds fan then a Man City fan because his Dad played there.

“He may have those ambitions but who knows where Real Madrid will be in five years’ time?

“I think it’s a long-term signing because if he starts well they’ll give him another contract and they’ll just keep it rolling over.

“He could be vital in the Premier League and help them win titles over and over again. Then you can start thinking about the Ballon d’Or.

“Then can he take Man City to that summit of the Champions League? If Pep’s got him in the side with those other players and he can’t do it, then who can he do it with?”

In other news, the door has opened for Man City to sign a midfielder and £50million could now seal the deal.
