Euro giants slap £35m price tag on goal machine after stunning Newcastle bid made – reports

Besiktas has slapped a £35million price tag on star striker Cenk Tosun, according to a report.

Turkish news outlet Hurriyet claims that the European giants have upped their valuation of reported Newcastle transfer target Tosun, 26, ahead of the January transfer window.

DHA claims reported last month that the Magpies submitted a stunning offer worth £8.9million plus the services of fan favourite Aleksandar Mitrovic in a player exchange deal for Tosun.

Newcastle have been widely reported to be in the hunt for Tosun ahead of January but this latest major development in the transfer saga may completely price them out of signing the prolific goalscorer, who has been in blistering form for Besiktas this season.

The Turkish goal machine has netted 13 times in 22 appearances across all competitions this term, with four coming in the Champions League group stages when the Istanbul giants qualified for the last 16.

Football Insider verdict

Newcastle may be on the verge of having new owners, but even Amanda Staveley and co may not be able to afford the new valuation of Tosun. Besiktas have every right to try and squeeze every penny out of the Premier League clubs that want to sign the Turkey international next month, but with this price-tag they may have just ruled out the chance to make any money. That could in turn upset the striker if he wants to leave Istanbul next month to try and make a name for himself elsewhere. Newcastle’s £8.9million bid for Tosun plus Mitrovic seems pretty minute now he could cost up to £35million.
