European giants’ chief makes shock £225million claim over Tottenham transfer talks

By Russell Edge

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has claimed he does not need to ask Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy how much Harry Kane would cost as he already knows the answer.

The 24-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to the European giants after his impressive goal scoring form this season, which has seen him net 13 goals in 12 appearances across all competitions for the north London club.

Don Balon have claimed that Zinedine Zidane has made the Tottenham man his top target for a transfer next summer, while Spanish Radio station Onda Cera reported that Spurs and Madrid held informal talks over a potential deal during their Champions League clash last week.

Sky Sports stated that Tottenham rubbished the radio station’s report, which had suggested Gareth Bale would have been offered as part of the deal, and now Real Madrid chief Perez has also stated that no conversations took place.

However he made the shocking claim that he needed not hold discussions with Levy as he already knows that the asking price for Kane is £225million (€250million).

He told Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo: “I did not ask the president of Tottenham for the price of Harry Kane because I know he will tell me that it costs 250 million (euros).”

Kane has been one of the world’s top strikers in recent seasons, having netted over 20 league goals in each of his last three seasons, picking up two successive Premier League golden boot awards.

He was on target twice on Sunday to sink Liverpool in a 4-1 win at Wembley, which keeps them in third place, five points behind league leaders Manchester City and level with second placed Manchester United.

Football Insider verdict

Florentino Perez coming out and stating he knows the asking price for Kane is a bold move, and puts the ball firmly back in Tottenham’s court. Both sides have rubbished claims of talks between the clubs, but Perez is insisting that he does not need to hold them as he knows what the response would be. It also suggests that Real Madrid do have an interest in Kane and that will be worrying for Spurs, as not many players can turn down the Spanish giants. It awaits to be seen whether it ever comes down to Kane making a choice between the two clubs, but there is no doubt it would be a difficult decision for the striker.
