Everton backed to sign Dele Alli ally after journalist’s ‘exciting’ update – pundit

Paul Robinson has backed Idrissa Gana Gueye to prove his worth to Everton once again in the 2022-23 campaign.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested the 32-year-old would bring out the best in Dele Alli.

According to Fabrizio Romano, writing in The Guardian (1 August), Gueye is close to re-joining the Toffees.

The centre-midfielder is said to have travelled to Merseyside in anticipation of a medical.

His contract with PSG runs until the end of June next year.

When asked by Football Insider if Gueye would be a welcome addition to Frank Lampard’s side, Robinson said: “To be able to get him back would be good.

“He did not play a lot at PSG but he is a talented player, of that there’s no doubt.

“He is a played that Frank has obviously wanted. Frank knows they have to freshen it up.

“They cannot have the same situation as last season. A club of that size and stature should not be fighting relegation.

“Gueye would enhance their chances of improving upon last season.

“Having a player like that at the base of the midfield will help the likes of Dele Alli. I expect we will see a different Alli this year. In an Everton side on the front foot you will get a much better Alli. He will be like a new signing.

“There’s reasons to be excited.”
