Sources: Everton discuss sensational move for Marcelo Bielsa

Everton have discussed a sensational move for Marcelo Bielsa as they weigh up a change of manager, sources have told Football Insider.

Frank Lampard’s job is believed to be on the line following a wretched set of results leading up to the World Cup break culminating in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at manager-less Bournemouth.

Everton chiefs are getting “edgy” behind the scenes, according to one well-placed source, and Lampard’s future has been a topic of discussion over the last 48 hours.

Bournemouth

It is understood that a shock swoop for the available Bielsa has been discussed among the hierarchy.

This comes as the Argentine, 67, is close to accepting an offer to become the new Bournemouth manager.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (14 November) that Bielsa is in advanced talks with the Cherries and a full agreement is close.

Everton have the resources to hijack their Premier League rivals and have showed during the Farhad Moshiri era they are willing to spend big to lure elite manager names.

Carlo Ancelotti, Rafael Benitez and Ronaldo Koeman are among those handed extraordinary lucrative contracts to take over in the Goodison Park dugout.

Bielsa is regarded in football as a one-off maverick, and is revered by Leeds United fans among others after transforming the team’s fortunes.

The 67-year-old famously led United back into the Premier League after a 16-year absence in July 2020, and managed them for four years before he was sacked in February.

Everton

Everton dropped to 17th in the Premier League going into the mid-season break after five defeats in their last seven matches in the competition.

They were also eliminated from the League Cup by Bournemouth last week as they were twice demolished by the club trying to lure their own new manager target.
