Everton board slammed by expert after ‘huge’ £600m reveal – ‘they’re clueless’
Everton must hire “people who know what they are doing” after the club posted more financial losses.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Toffees’ released their accounts for the 2020/21 season.
As per those accounts, Everton lost £120.9million last season, the third straight season of the club losing more than £110million.
As per BBC Sport, Farhad Moshiri has pumped more than £600million into the club since he first purchased shares in Everton in 2016.
Despite this, the Toffees remain at risk of relegation with 11 league games remaining this season.
McAvennie insists it is poor decision-making that has let Everton down over the last three years.
“You can spend all the money in the world but it’s the decisions that are letting them down,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Hiring Benitez was such a huge mistake, no amount of money can help when you do that.
“A lot gets made of that hire but the transfers have been pretty bad too.
“Everton need to invest in people who make football decisions, people who know what they are doing because the current guys are clueless don’t know what they are doing.
“They are such a big club and I don’t want them to get relegated.
“But you look at the club’s position and it’s a real worry.“

Everton lie 17th in the Premier League table but have two games in hand on 18th placed Watford.
They are next in action against West Ham on Sunday (3 April).
