Everton expected to submit new Mohammed Kudus bid – expert

Noel Whelan has backed Everton to return for Ajax star Mohammed Kudus in January with Frank Lampard’s side lacking “firepower” at the sharp end of the pitch.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed none of the Toffees’ attackers look “good value” to reach a double-figure goal tally this season.

This site revealed back in the summer transfer window (19 August) that Everton were in advanced talks to sign Ajax attacker Kudus, 22.

The Independent updated on 1 September, claiming the Dutch club rejected a bid of £15million plus add-ons for the forward as they were reluctant to lose another key man following Antony’s departure to Man United.

Kudus scored a brace for Ghana against South Korea in World Cup group action on Monday (28 November) to follow up his impressive 10-goal haul for Ajax so far this season.

The two-time Eredivisie winner is out of contract in June 2025.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “There’s no doubt that they need more firepower.

“You just need to look at last season, and the start of this season – both of which have been without Calvert-Lewin.

“There’s really no potent forwards at the club that you can say are good value for double figures in a season.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if they went back for Kudus. He’s a young, hungry option who would give them plenty of different options for that front line.

Man United

“They need to start scoring goals if they want to win football matches.

“Defensively, they’re a lot more solid. They bought two quality defenders in, but they’re so light up front.”
