Kieran Maguire: Everton have ‘something to hide’ ahead of announcement soon
The fact that Everton have failed to disclose when they will release their yearly accounts indicates that they have something to hide from supporters.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ lack of transparency over their annual financial figures.
Everton’s last three sets of accounts have revealed losses of over £370million, and auditors BDO have reportedly told the club that they will no longer review their books.
As relayed by Everton on Wednesday (26 October), the club’s fan advisory board have enquired as to when they can expect to see the paperwork for the 2021-22 season.
Everton claimed that they have not yet made a final decision on when the numbers, which are due by March at the very latest, will be released.
Maguire suggests that their unwillingness to provide an update to fans is not a good look.
“There’s a saying in business which goes that if you have nothing to hide, hide nothing,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The evasiveness of Everton in terms of committing to data publication of their accounts given the extent of their losses in the last few years has raised some concerns as far as supporters’ trusts are concerned.
“I anticipate that the accounts will be released close to the deadline for submission.

“There are outstanding issues with regard to who is going to be auditing the accounts. Clearly, until the appointment of the auditors is confirmed, the auditors cannot come and begin work.
“There is a degree of uncertainty about when they will be finally signed off and released to individual parties.“
